Manager Josh Griffith praised his side’s winning attitude following a 5-3 victory for Derby men’s fifths against Lincoln’s third team.
The hosts put an end to their three-game losing streak in the Midlands League 5A with Harry Hill, Guilherme Pereira, Ryan Hanks and Matty Cotterill (2) all getting on the scoresheet.
After telling his players that there were only winners in the squad, Griffiths was happy that his team applied that attitude in the BUCS clash.
Griffiths also went on to say that his team came into today’s game with confidence to turn their form around.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be honest.
“We came into the game confident, we’d lost three on the bounce before this game.
“I said to them before there’s no losers in that changing room, there’s only winners so why aren’t we winning?
“I think we applied that attitude here today.”
Griffiths explained how his side had set up differently compared to previous matches and how this helped them produce a better performance.
He said: “We changed a bit in the midfield, having someone a bit deeper instead of an attacking midfielder.
“I think it was brilliant to stabilise that defence and then let our attacking players who are superb to do what they do best.
“I think that reflected in the five goals today.”
Griffiths praised the performance of Goal scorer Guilherme Pereira in Derby’s midfield but emphasised that it was a team performance
“I think Gui (Guilherme Pereira) in the midfield was superb.
“I could name every single one of them to be honest.
“I think it was a team performance and I could look at each one of them and say that I was proud of them which I did do.
“So, I think overall, all over the pitch was absolutely superb.”
Derby will now look ahead to next week, when they travel to face Bishop Grosseteste’s first team, where they will be hoping for a different result to last time, when they lost 5-1 at home.
He added: “We played a different formation against them last time.
“I think the new formation has worked here so I think it will allow us to stabilise a bit more.
“I think we lost it physically last game and I think the next game is going to be a lot better.
“We’ve got a lot more physical players and I think it will work to our strengths.”
