Fans react to YouTube star Mashtag Brady’s live event in Derby city centre

It’s fair to say the Derby City Council were concerned heading into last weekend as YouTuber Mashtag Brady had been promoting a live event across his social media in the week prior.

Just over 1,000 of his followers squeezed in on Green Lane on Saturday, expecting music, food stands and knowing Brady’s reputation potentially a riot.

Instead, they were served a very limited amount of jacket potatoes, a surprise performance from worldwide DJ Nathan Dawe and some left with real tattoos of Mashtag’s signature.

Green Lane is one of the main routes into the centre of town, just off the Derbion and a hotspot for incidents on the road, so ideally not the best location to host masses.

Brady (32) already has a poor relationship with the higher authorities, having previous convictions of controlling behaviour and abuse to a previous partner four years ago.

Despite this his fans remain loyal, he’s gained over one million subscribers since the sudden rise of his channel back in 2024.

They saw this as a rare opportunity to meet their hometown hero, who’s usually away vlogging his abroad travels.

Charlie, a subscriber for over a year, said: “It’s not something you see every day, Mashtag Brady and Window Kid are stood on a car rapping.

“I was worried that this could get ugly, and to be honest I still am but I’m having a good time.”

This event was the finale of Brady’s latest YouTube series, a promotion for his friends brand new jerk chicken shop.

Music was performed throughout by Brady’s long-term friend Window Kid, the Nottingham based artist has built up quite the reputation in the Midlands over the past few years.

Food was also served, which Brady had been preparing in previous episodes although there wasn’t nearly enough to serve the hundreds rushing down Green Lane.

The danger started as oncoming traffic ramped up, despite attempts to close the road down, vehicles sped and swerved down the street stuffed with excited fans.

“You do feel like this could all kick-off, it just takes one individual to do something stupid, cars are flying down this road and there’s people everywhere,” said Jamie, another long-term viewer.

Thankfully after a few hours the crowd begam to tire, and the police got a slight foothold allowing Window Kid to perform with the horde hustled out of the way of speeding vehicles.

The triangle of talent was completed later into the afternoon, as Burton born DJ Nathan Dawe gave the lucky crowd a quick hour before the sun went down.

He posted the video on YouTube last night, having already gained over 200,000 views it’s fair to say his event was a success, putting Brady into some much-needed good light.
