Jacob Lappin reports from Kedleston Road
An Emily Brett hat-trick helped Derby University Women’s secure a thoroughly deserved Varsity victory over Hertfordshire University Women’s at Kedleston Road.
Despite having a penalty saved in the first half, it was a completely dominant 8-0 scoreline with Ella Brennan, Jess Smethhurst, Darcey Dickens and Sophie Marshall amongst the goals.
Set-pieces were certainly causing the visitors problems, with four Derby goals coming as a result of balls into the box from corners.
This result reflected the 2026 Varsity’s current state of affairs, with Derby currently leading Herts 13-4.
