The Ram Comedy Festival returns to Derby in May with over 70 shows, offering a massive boost to the city’s culture.
Organisers at the annual event confirmed that 57 performances will be free or “Pay What You Like” to make it accessible to all residents.
The festival runs from the 28th of May until the 7th of June at various historic venues across the city of Derby.
The venues include The Old Bell Hotel and Derby Theatre, where performers will test new material before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Local fan Allyna Pental believes the event is exactly what the city needs this summer to boost tourism.
She said: “I’ll be going to the opening preview show at 2pm because it is free to enter.
“It is brilliant to see the Museum of Making hosting stand-up sets for the first time this year.”
More than 100 comedians are expected to arrive in the city to take part and hundreds of locals are set to watch.
The festival has grown significantly since the 2000s, now attracting visitors from across Derbyshire and the rest of the UK.
While the city prepares for the crowds, businesses in the area are hoping for a successful ten days of high-street trading.
Jessica Swan a University of Derby student said it will be an unforgettable event that everyone can enjoy: “My family are all coming down to see the musical comedy acts.
“The atmosphere in the pubs is always very warm and welcoming.”
Visitors can find all the information on their website and various point in the city centre.
