Fashion’s green shift: how Adidas, Stella McCartney and H&M are tackling sustainability to protect the planet

From turning ocean plastic into stylish sneakers to creating cruelty free vegan luxury here’s how major brands are making sustainable clothing accessible to every day shoppers.

Adidas – Innovation through materials

Adidas is making major investments to make their products more sustainable with reduced harmful emissions.

The brand’s partnership with Parley for the Oceans has turned ocean plastic into high quality performance sportswear, reducing waste and creating awareness.

Adidas has also released shoes with 100% recyclable materials, designed to be returned and remade into new quirky products.

Overall aiming to end plastic waste across their supply chain, Adidas is just one example of how sportswear can be functional and future friendly.

Stella McCartney: Luxury with a conscience

Since the beginning of the brand, Stella McCartney has built her label on the idea that style should come with protecting the planet, with its goal to be a net-zero by 2024.

Refusing to use leather, fur, and animal skins – a bold yet powerful move in the luxury industry, champions of alternative fabrics like mushroom based leather and regenerated cashmere.

Collaborating with Adidas and other innovative brands has helped bring sustainable luxury into the mainstream.

Stella McCartney’s approach shows that high fashion can lead the way in saving the planet as well as its aesthetic as a vegan brand.

H&M: Fast Fashion, slower impact

As one of the biggest names in fast fashion, H&M has faced some heavy criticism for overproduction. Yet it has positioned itself as a mass market for more sustainable clothes.

H&M uses organic cotton, recycled polyester and a new textile to lower its environmental footprint.

The brand is taking a more complex approach while staying committed to adapting and learning new ways to reduce the number of resources it uses.

The brand has also introduced garment recycling bins in stores, encouraging its customers to close a chapter on clothing waste.

While sceptics argue that true sustainability requires deeper change, the H&M initiative has brought eco-friendly fashion into the reach of millions of everyday shoppers.
