Thomas Tuchel has announced his England squad for the final camp before his team embark on their latest quest to end almost sixty years of hurt in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The German named an extensive 35-man squad, splitting the camp into two, as eleven players are set to join up later than the rest ahead of the second game.
A larger squad than usual allowed for some old and new faces to receive call-ups as they all look to stake their claim for a prestigious place in the World Cup squad.
The decision to name a bigger pool of players has left many intrigued to see what these additional players will bring.
Derby student, Gideon Acheampong, said: “It is a very interesting England squad.
“I’m happy to see it mixed up.”
A variety of players have received recalls, including the Manchester United duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, following a recent upturn in form for the Red Devils.
Fikayo Tomori was also recalled for the first time since 2024, whilst Leeds United talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned his first call-up for five years.
The inclusion of the striker who has impressed for the Whites has sparked conversation between fans, many of whom are pleased to see him back in the set-up.
Angelo Henry, a student in Derby, said: “I do think it’s interesting to see Calvert Lewin in there, but I think he deserves it.”
Lewis Hall and Dominic Solanke have also been included in the squad following their recoveries from injury.
This announcement has also seen Everton’s James Garner handed his maiden England call-up alongside Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele.
Whilst many have been pleasantly surprised by some of the names included in the list, one particular omission has left a lot of people shocked.
Despite the larger-than-usual squad size, there was still no room for Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who missed out once again.
This has proved to be a big talking point amongst the fanbase in the aftermath of this announcement, with many fans questioning the decision to leave him out.
Derby student, Millie Johnson, said: “It’s a good squad.
“Disappointed not to see Trent in there, though.”
These are England’s final matches together before they travel to America in the summer.
Both games will take place at Wembley Stadium during this international break as Tuchel’s men face Uruguay on March 27 and Japan on March 31.
