TripAdvisor has always been the key go-to when finding out about how good a place is before visiting; in this instance, it’s the pubs of Derby and which are the best.
I visited the top four to see if they really were as good as the website says:
4th place – The Hideout
In fourth place in the heart of Derby, The Hideout, the bar is a go-to for watching live sports events in Derby with its many screens.
It also hosts lots of booths with Televisions mounted to the walls so you can enjoy sports in a small group.
My verdict on this is that I think it should be moved up the list to potentially second or third due to the state-of-the-art screens

.
3rd place – The Merlin
In third place is The Merlin, which has the best of both worlds, as there is a great selection of drinks on draught.
It also has a great menu which covers the three meals of the day.
The facilities were kept very clear, and although the time to wait for food was quite long, it is definitely a good choice in Derby if you want a nice meal in a friendly pub.
I would say this place is fairly rated from my visit here, it felt very welcoming, and the food was nice.
2nd place – The Paddock
In second place is The Paddock, sitting just outside Breadsall Hilltop, which lacks in location, but it makes up for it with a fantastic menu.
It is also licensed for TNT and Sky Sports, which appeals to sports fans to come and have their lunch while watching the big game.
The Paddock is well deserved of its second-place spot, the only negative was its location, however, for the locals, that is no problem at all.
1st place- The Lodge
And finally, in first place, The Lodge, this Alvaston-based pub has a fantastic set-up which includes multiple dart boards with darts behind the bar.
The outdoor facilities stood out to me the most, with a very large beer garden area and a sheltered area with televisions.
I believe this pub is a very good place and deserves it first place.
The factor of the outdoor facilities, along with the darts and pool, makes this the most desirable on the list.
Overall, these five pubs are all very good establishments, which I thought had been reviewed fairly.
