Rams look to avenge history of poor home form against already relegated Owls

Derby County are aiming for a victory in a must-win fixture against Sheffield Wednesday, in the race to regain their place in the EFL Championship play-off places.

Wednesday, who were recently relegated following a loss to local rivals Sheffield United, have only one win all season and hope that a win can dent the Rams’ hopes of Premier League football next season.

Derby have been in mixed form as of late, winning just two of their past five league games.

Sheffield Wednesday have had somewhat of goalkeeping crisis as of late, with them having seven different goalkeepers throughout the 25/26 campaign.

Derby won 2-0 in the fixture almost nine years ago, with Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson netting the goals against the 10-man away side.

Managed by Danish national Henrik Pedersen, the side have gone down with a fight despite the heartbreak of relegation at the hands of the blades.

John Eustace, who has taken Derby from the brink of relegation to the promise of Premier League football, will hope that gaining these points can bring the Rams closer to Southampton and Wrexham in sixth and seventh respectively.

The last time the sides faced off was at Hillsborough in December, as Derby secured a confident 3-0 victory with two goals from Patrick Agyemang and Liam Thompson.

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit on minus seven points after their 12-point deduction and exit of disgraced former owner Dejphon Chansiri in October.

The last five Derby games have seen the rams score eight goals and concede nine as they sit in eighth with 51 points.

Derby look to build off their 3-1 home win last Saturday against Eustace’s former side Blackburn Rovers.

USA striker Patrick Agyemang will hope to continue his impressive goalscoring form as he sits on ten for the season, two of which he scored in the reverse fixture.
