Vincent Heath reports from Kedleston Road
Dominika Harewicz has firmly backed her team’s abilities despite Derby women’s seconds’ 7-0 defeat to East Anglia women’s seconds.
Sixth-placed Derby played third-placed East Anglia at Kedleston Road but Derby’s wing-back strongly believes in the team’s capabilities.
Harewicz stated: “We were quite spaced out at times; our interlinking wasn’t our strong point.
“But we still kept our heads high throughout the game and we pushed until the very end.
“I think we definitely still have what it takes to win our next game.”
East Anglia took the lead from a corner that was swung in by Simran Rai and squeezed into the bottom right corner by Isabel Cuenca.
The second goal soon arrived when an ambitious effort from Leona Pompa trickled off defender Tasmin Parry into the bottom right corner.
East Anglia would eventually get their third with a cross from Rai finding the head of Olivia Allen who directed the ball past Askin.
Pompa got her second of the game as she calmly slotted her shot into the back of the next making it 4-0 to East Anglia.
East Anglia converted another set piece with Pompa claiming her hat-trick making it 5-0 to the visitors.
Olivia Allen took a long range shot which found the bottom right corner making it 6-0.
Cuenca was slipped through onto the left wing in the 95th minute and fired a shot high into the net sealing Derby’s 7-0 home defeat.
Derby remains in sixth whilst East Anglia remain in third with two games in hand to Bedfordshire firsts in the BUCS Women’s Midlands 4A League.
