For the past few years award shows such as the Oscars have been under intense scrutiny. The Oscars has undoubtedly received the brunt of the backlash from groups such as the #MeToo Movement and the #Oscarsowhite hashtag which have called out racial and gender inequality in the winner selection process.
More often than not, these protests were bolstered and fuelled by social media powerhouses such as Instagram and Twitter. However, in more recent years much of the outrage has seemingly subsided. Let us take a look at what Twitter thought of this year’s #OscarWinners.

It’s safe to say that Kaluuya’s portrayal of Fred Hampton in the 2021 American biographical drama film was subject to universal acclaim and as the Twitter user above noted was indeed one for the history book. Daniel also received best supporting actor awards at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and BAFTA Awards.

Although she faced censorship from China, the land of her birth. Zhao was on cloud nine last night after she was the second woman in history and the first woman of colour to win the award for Best Director at the Oscars.
