Thousands of people across the country – including in Derby – are expected to host lunches, parties and other events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The occasion will mark 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne and June will see venues throughout Britain hold special events in recognition.

Similar celebrations happened back in 2012, to acknowledge the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and 2017 for her Sapphire Jubilee.

The former was a full year in the UK already, with the Olympics happening in the summer of 2012.

As the Platinum Jubilee draws ever closer, we provide details of some upcoming events in June that you can visit to feel like royalty yourself in Derby.

1) Platinum Palace screening:

Where: Derby Market Place

When: Saturday, June 4, 7.30pm-10.30pm

Cost: Free

Join everyone as they gather around Derby Market Place to view the hottest event of the season.

There will be a live broadcast from the BBC of the concert, live from Buckingham Palace itself.

The concert itself will include state-of-the-art technology, global pop stars, opera singers and a fully live orchestra. Who would want to miss this?

2) Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail

Where: St. Peter’s Quarter

When: April 30 – June 12

Cost: Free

The Beacon Jubilee Trail offers friends, family and anyone a chance to wander around the city centre to find seven characters hiding out.

Each character is related to the Jubilee and will tell a different story of a decade in the Queen’s reign. The tour will be led by Sir Barnaby Beacon, as they’re guided through history.

3) The Big Jubilee Lunch at the Market Place

Where: Derby Market Place

When: Sunday, June 5 – 12pm-6pm

Cost: Free

Join in the nationwide fun as the entire country sits down to eat lunch in the honour of the Jubilee.

The lunch offers a chance for the communities of Derby to get to know each other and bond over this monument’s occasion.

Hosted by the BBC Radio Derby and taking place in the heart of the Derby Cathedral Quarter, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. So join everyone in friendship, food and good spirits.
