West Hallam resident welcomes new controversial housing development

A local resident has welcomed plans to build 20 new homes on the site of the former Beechcroft care home in West Hallam.

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was positive about the proposal from RBSL Developments.

The site, which is located on Nursery Road, was closed in 2022 by Derbyshire County Council due to a repair bill of £31 million.

The resident, who lives just yards from the site, was largely pleased with the news.

She said: “It will certainly be busier than it is now.

“I’m not sure whether it [the development] will be for the good. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.

“It [the site] has been a demolition site for too long now – It’s an eyesore.”

Beechcroft was demolished in 2025, with the site cleared ready for development work to begin.

The 20 new homes will be semi-detached, with two of these classed as affordable homes.
