A bar worker in Derby says the city centre becoming more dangerous at night-time.
Bartender Tiana, who works at The Hideout, in the Market Place, told me what its like working in there during the evening.
Her comments chime with the latest statistics.
Recent studies by Derbyshire Live show that there have been 5,429 night time economy crimes reported in Derby between September 2020 and August 2023.
She said:Â “Like what happened on Sadler Gate last week, [A man was glassed] we have to get alot of people on the door on the weekends just to protect the customers.”
This is not the first big incident in Derby as last May when a man was killed in Lloyds bank in the city centre.
The weekends are especially the hardest time for the pubs and bars of Derby with large numbers causing trouble, with this worker telling me how rowdy they can be.
She said: “Every Saturday we end up having to kick out between two and five people maybe.
“I think better precautions should be put in place like having more police outside during the nights.
“People being more aware and educated about knife crime, and just regular crime as well and what too look for.”
She added that she believed this knowledge and education needs to be imported into schools.
