Birmingham City University scored four goals in 15 minutes to send Derby men’s threes to a heavy defeat.

A strong second-half display was the difference between the two sides as the visitors scored four goals in 15 minutes, to give them a five-goal lead in Midlands 4C.

The action got off to a quiet start with the opening chance for Derby falling for Bayem Onelum who saw a volley land just wide of the goal.

Birmingham City men’s firsts took the lead in the 37th minute when a corner by Phillip Mann led to the Birmingham captain, Rhemel Boateng, scoring.

A goal by David Robinson for the visitors in the 48th minute doubled Birmingham’s lead, before in the 52nd minute Oliver Dominy Lewis scored a free-kick from 25 yards, making it three.

Derby had little time to recover as in the 55th minute Liam Walker scored a fourth from close range after an initial save by the goalkeeper.

It got tougher for Derby as four minutes later David Robinson scored a fifth for Birmingham City firsts after being played through by Eric Nana Edusei.

Derby men’s threes currently sit in fifth place in the table with two wins from seven games and will travel to Aston men’s seconds next week in the British Universities and College Sport.
