Kalum Thresher-Wilding reports from Kedlestone Road
Derby Women’s Twos suffered a 7-0 defeat to East Anglia Women’s Twos at Kedleston Road in the BUCS Midlands 4a.
This came in Derby’s last home fixture of the season, with just one win in their own backyard all campaign.
Tiana Knox was the standout player for Derby in a slow start. But Isabel Cuenca scored in the 27th minute after a scramble following Simarn Rai’s out swinging corner.
A second came three minutes after as Leona Pompa’s shot from outside the box deflected, sending Derby keeper Millie Askins the wrong way.
East Anglia had most of the possession in the second half, troubling Derby’s defence but struggling to creating a scoring chance until the last 20 minutes.
Although Tayla Woodhouse was unable to convert from the spot, East Anglia’s Allen headed the ball home from Rai’s pinpoint corner.
Pompa completed her hat-trick with goals in the 84th and 88th minutes slotting the ball both times past Askins.
To compound Derby’s misery, Allen and Cuenca scored in the dying minutes to make it seven.
Derby will look to use their creative spells as they seek to battle clear of the relegation zone.
