Honey Hicks reports from Kedleston Road
Derby women’s seconds suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to a dominant University of East Anglia seconds at Kedleston Road in the BUCS Midlands 4A division.
A shaky start for Derby saw them go two goals down in just 30 minutes after having few chances come their way.
Isabel Cuenca opened the scoring for the visitors in the 27th minute, a low strike scrappily rolling in the back of the net.
Leona Pompa doubled UEA’s lead in the 31st minute from a deflected effort just inside the penalty area.
The second half was mainly dominated by East Anglia with them having the majority of the chances, and more of the possession.
UEA had a chance to increase their lead early in the second half after a long-range effort by Simran Rai, but it was saved by Derby’s Millie Askins.
A penalty was conceded in the 60th minute after a handball by Alice Cornish, but penalty-taker Tayla Woodhouse skied it over the bar.
UEA extended their lead in the 77th minute after a cross by Rai who found the head of Olivia Allen to make the score 3-0.
The game ended with two late strikes for Pompa, securing her hat-trick and another goal each for Allen and Cuenca to seal their brace.
The fixture marked Derby women’s seconds’ last game at home in the British Universities and College Sport competition.
