Eben Mayiza reports from Kedleston Road
Liam Sutcliffe, Derby men’s first’s manager, said he always expected to win the title.
Derby men’s first claimed a 4-0 victory over Worcester men’s first in a convincing performance and claimed the BUCS Midlands Tier 2B title.
The home side were dominant from start to finish limiting the opinions chances to a minimum and managed to keep a clean sheet in the process.
Worcester men’s were already relegated but goals from Emyr Lloyd, Adam Blair-Park, Dine Evra and Arnold Marimbe began the title celebrations.
Sutcliffe gave an interesting analogy referring to the idea of him always having the thought of winning the title in his mind from the start of the season.
He said: “You don’t stand at the top of the aisle expecting not to get married.
“I expected to win today, I expected to win the title, the players wanted and expected to win the title and we’ve done it.”
Despite winning the title, the manager said that he will be asking for videos to be published on YouTube to look over and analyse the game.
“No doubt I will be speaking to [team analyst] and saying [team analyst] can you clip me this and send me this. It’s just the way that I’m built so it just is what it is,” said Sutcliffe.
The manager looked forward to the possibility of playing in a new league and mentioned doing research to limit surprises from the new teams that they’ll be facing.
He said: “We have a really good understanding of the challenges that we’re going to face, but who knows how that’s going to transpire?
“Will we be good enough? I don’t know. Will we be relegation fodder? I doubt it. Will we be up there fighting for the title? Maybe.”
