Josh Larkman reports from Kedleston Road

Derby Men’s 1s captain Rasheed Babajide said the team do not want to drop their standards going into the final game of the season.

The team will take on Worcester Men’s 1s in a game that will decide the winner of the Men’s Midlands Tier 2B for the 2024/25 season at Kedleston Road on Wednesday afternoon.

The home team will be looking to secure the win that would guarantee them the title as well as promotion.

Worcester 1s are already relegated going into the game but Babajide said Derby will not let up despite  the gap between the teams.

He said: “We can’t see them as a relegated team. We have to see them as a team second in the league and we have to beat them”

The Derby captain said the 5-2 win over Worcester earlier in the season will affect the planning of the game. He said: “We know their weakness and we have been discussing where we need to attack. The boys know what they need to do and how to do it.”

Babajide also stated that one of the key factors of the team playing better is enjoying their football. “We all enjoy football,” he said. “We love playing with each other and we treat each other like brothers.”

Babajide also spoke on his previous experience of playing at step 5 in football.  The defender said: “Semi-Pro football helped me deal with the pressure of playing games. It toughened me up mentally and my experience helped me play better.”
