The University of Derby Men’s 3rd XI secured a 2-0 win against the University of Derby fourth XI in a closely-fought affair at Kedleston Road.

The victory takes Derby 3rds within three points of league leaders Nottingham 6ths with a game in hand, keeping them in the running for the BUCS Midlands division 4B title with two games to go.

The game was fiercely contested, with the referee brandishing seven yellow cards, but goals from Lewis Smith and Matt Mowbray in the second half proved to be the difference between the sides.

Next week, Derby 3rds will look to complete a league double over Leicester 2nds, having already beaten them 4-1 earlier in the month, while the Derby 4ths will be hoping to climb the table as they take on Oxford Brookes 2nds at home.
