Gareth Southgate’s team selection at 2pm confirmed that Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling was left out of the England squad. In his place, Crystal Palace man Eberechi Eze replaced him.
Through his Nigerian parents, Crystal Palace’s player is also eligible to play for Nigeria. However, he has chosen to represent the Three Lions over the Super Eagles in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
Here we go.

Southgate had originally selected the 24-year-old for the provisional 55-man squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar, but he was not selected for the final team.
With six goals in eight games this season, attacking midfielder Eze has been rewarded with a first England for his form at Palace.
As the tenth player of Nigerian descent to select England, Eze joins the ranks of some of the country’s most talented players.
